[Game Host] Ready your ropes,

Good luck, begin!

(whistle)

(hiphop music)

[MC] We got some of the best of the best double dutches

That's gonna come in by

To see who's gonna be number one,

number two, and number three today.

Back in the day, double dutch was an outlet.

There weren't many things that young kids

could go out and do, especially girls.

We didn't have the technology to distract us

so we were more interactive in the streets.

(hiphop music)

You see how the turners is talkin to the jumper,

the jumper is listening to the turning.

Turning is the heartbeat of double dutch.

My name is Brandon Harrison, this is my mom,

and we are competing together for our second year in a row.

I started jumping in 1980 so of course,

when I had Brandon, I just started coaching him

and as he's gotten older, mom can still jump!

(rhythmic clapping music)

We're always together, so it's complicated

but it's all well, for us.

Yes.

(cheering)

[MC] Really, really nice!

My name is Sasha Cunningham

and I've been doing double dutch for two years.

When I'm on stage, I'm thinking that I wanna win

and I wanna get first place.

I don't wanna mess up but I also wanna have fun.

When people are walking by here, they hear the noise,

they hear the music, they hear the ropes turning,

they're thinking, what's going on here?

And they see us, on the stage.

That says something.

That means something.
